Little Elm internist John G. Flores, MD, was reelected vice speaker of the Texas Medical Association House of Delegates policymaking body in May 2023. The office of vice speaker is an ex-officio member of the TMA Board of Trustees.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Flores has worked with Speaker Brad Holland, MD, to help house members adapt to the changing means of communication as the normally in-person meetings shifted to virtual, then back to ballroom gatherings. Among the changes adopted was inviting members’ testimonial comments online about resolutions, while debates occur in person.

As vice speaker, Dr. Flores seeks to ensure the House of Delegates meeting runs smoothly and efficiently. “We have had many items of business to tackle and worked to provide members an open and welcoming meeting where everyone can have their voice heard,” he said.

In addition to his board service as the house vice speaker, Dr. Flores has held multiple TMA leadership positions, including chair of both the Council on Socioeconomics and the Council on Health Service Organizations.

Dr. Flores also serves as a TMA alternate delegate to the American Medical Association and is secretary of the AMA Organized Medical Staff Section’s Governing Council. He also is a former president of the Denton County Medical Society.
