Katherine “Kate” Russell is the 2023-24 medical student representative on the TMA Board of Trustees. She joined the board during the May 2023 TexMed board meeting.

“My goal is to continue to strengthen the relationship between the Medical Student Section membership and the rest of TMA,” Ms. Russell said. “Many of our section members wish to stay in Texas for residency and eventually to practice, so I hope to grow the mentorship and networking connections between students and physicians.”

Ms. Russell has been a TMA member for three years. She is a past president of the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (TCOM’s) student chapter. As a TMA board member, her aim is to ensure students who are enthusiastic about advocacy receive the mentorship they need to be successful.

“Our Texas students are passionate advocates for health care issues important to them, which I hope to share with our board,” she said.

Ms. Russell is a regular Walk with a Future Doc event organizer at the medical school. The TMA-backed program invites members of the community to walk with physicians and medical students for exercise and connection with the medical community.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Baylor University. She has a master of science degree in public health from Emory University, and plans to graduate from TCOM with her medical degree in 2024.
